Further Information

*1957, studied Psychology and Medicine at the University of Münster. After receiving his doctorate in 1983 he worked as a project assistant and later as an assistant professor at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, where he habilitated with a study on the reception of news in 1994. Since 1996 he holds the chair for Empirical Communication Research at the Institute of Communication Studies and Media Research at LMU Munich. From 1998 to 2002 he was chairman of the German Communication Association (DGPuK). In addition to his official duties, he also headed the Medien Institut Ludwigshafen between 1995 and 2004. He was dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at LMU Munich from 2001 to 2021. His teaching and research focuses on media use, media effects and methodology.
